When
you received the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior you accepted
the position of Disciple. It
is now up to you to get to work.
To
start read the following passage.
Read
Romans 12
What
is Chapter 12 about? The
answer is simple- Discipleship
- We
are to consider ourselves living sacrifices pleasing to God –
Doing what needs to be done.
- We
are to be humble never putting ourselves above others – See others
as God sees
- We
are to realize that we all have gifts that are best used to serve
God – Labor for God
And
most all we are to
- Love
others with a sincere heart in order to pass on the truth – Love
as Jesus Loved
This
is living the life of a disciple
In
Romans 12 Paul calls us as Christians to realize that we are disciples
and to use whatever we have for the glory of God and to help the body of
Christ grow.
If
Romans 12 is not clear enough for you, then look at these other verses
that describe the duties of discipleship
1
Corinthians 9:19 – be a servant
John
15:8 – Bear fruit
Philippians
2:16 – Run the race
Matthew
5:13 – Be salt and light to the world
Luke
14:26 – Put Jesus first
John
10:27 – Listen to Jesus
Mark
12:30 – Love God with your whole heart
Matthew
28:18-20 - Make other disciples
James
4:7 – Resist the devil
And
finally there is
John
8:31 – Be steadfast in your commitment
You
can see from these verses that the life of a disciple is a long and
sometimes hard race to run. Paul
says in 1 Corinthians 9:14 that we need to “run the race so as to
win”. This means that as
disciples we need to be more alert of what we say and do, because one
wrong word or action can ruin our effectiveness for God.
The
Bible calls us the hands and feet that do the work of God here and there
is a lot of work to be done. So if your are ready, pick up your Bible,
pray to God for direction and strength and get started on one of the
most dangerous, but also the most rewarding callings there is. After all
how many jobs do you know of that give you the opportunity to save a
life each and every day?
Disciples
are lifesavers, because we throw people a rope from God it is up to them
to take hold of it and come to a saving relationship with God.
One
final thought; if you have any doubts about the importance of your job,
think about this. If you
are not there to tell others the Gospel message they may never hear the
Word and wouldn't that be tragic?
